Fiji Health Care Worker Scholarship Program

The Fiji Health Care Worker Scholarship Program is open for applications to Pacific HIV Symposium 2026 to be held Sheraton Fiji, Denarua Island, Nadi, Fiji, from 17 - 18 August 2026. 


DEADLINE: Applications will close on 11:59pm (GMT+12) Tuesday 26 May 2026 

To be eligible you must:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Fiji, AND currently living and working in Fiji
  • Be employed or actively volunteering at the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and/or a partner organization actively involved in HIV related services
  • cadres inclusive of Medical Officers, Registered Nurse (RN), Midwife, Allied Health Professional (e.g. pharmacist, laboratory scientist, social worker, psychologist, public health-related officers), or Peer Educator working in an HIV-related programme
  • Be able to attend the Symposium in person on 17–18 August 2026 at Sheraton Fiji, Denarau Island, Nadi
  • Commit to fulfilling all post-conference obligations outlined below

 

Priority will be given to:

  • Early career health workers — including those in post-graduate training, recently qualified (within 5 years), or new to HIV/STI/BBV work (regardless of years in practice)
  • Care team members — medical officers, nurses, midwives, public health-related officers, peer educators, and allied health professionals who are part of an integrated HIV care team
  • Health workers from divisions or settings with limited access to professional development and clinical training in HIV

 

Scholarship Inclusions:

Scholarships are offered across three tiers, reflecting varying levels of support. All tiers include full conference registration. Priority is given to applicants who demonstrate the greatest need and potential for impact.

 

The Gold Scholarship includes:

  • Conference registration (all two days)
  • Return transportation cost (includes via road, sea or air)
  • Accommodation for the duration of the Symposium
  • Daily per diem to cover meals and incidentals
  • Conference dinner and official social events

 

The Silver Scholarship includes:

  • Conference registration (all two days)
  • Accommodation for the duration of the Symposium
  • Conference dinner and official social events

 

The Bronze Scholarship includes:

  • Conference registration (all two days)
  • Conference dinner and official social events

Questions:

(response maximum 200 words for each question – must be submitted via the online application)

 

  • Briefly describe your role, where you work, and the HIV related needs you see in your setting or community. Include your professional title, employing organisation or facility, and approximate location within Fiji.
  • Describe one specific challenge you want to address in HIV care, prevention, testing, treatment or follow-up in your setting. Why is this a priority for you now?
  • What are the top two things you want to learn or take away from the Pacific HIV Symposium 2026 that will directly help you in your role?
  • Provide a brief outline, including examples, of how you will apply and share what you learn after the Symposium.
  • What are the main barriers to your attendance at the Symposium, and why do you require scholarship support? Please specify which tier you are applying for (Gold, Silver or Bronze) and explain why this level of support is appropriate for your situation.

Post-conference obligations:

All scholarship recipients are required to fulfil the following obligations within 10 working days of the conclusion of the Symposium, in order to receive a Certificate of

Participation which will account for their CPD points:

  • Submit a post-conference reflection(whether written or visual) to the Scholarship Committee, describing key learnings, clinical updates, and any intended changes to practice
  • Deliver a workplace presentation or in-service training session sharing key learnings with colleagues at their facility or programme
  • Contribute to dissemination via at least one public channel — this may include a social media post (e.g. Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Tiktok or WhatsApp/Viber community group).

 

Failure to fulfil these obligations may affect eligibility for future scholarship programmes and the recipients will not receive the Certificate of Participation. Recipients are encouraged to document their dissemination activities and provide evidence where possible.

 

Terms and Conditions:

All applicants must provide accurate and truthful information. Withholding or providing false information may result in the withdrawal of the scholarship.

  • Applicants must advise the Scholarship Committee immediately if their circumstances change (e.g. change of employment, inability to attend).
  • No extensions to the application deadline will be granted.
  • Panel decisions are final. No correspondence regarding panel outcomes will be entered into.
  • Scholarship inclusions are non-transferable and non-refundable once confirmed.
  • Flights and accommodation will be arranged by the Scholarship Committee.
  • All scholarship holders consent to their name and general role being listed as a scholarship recipient in Scholarship Committee communications.
  • All scholarship holders will need to organise their leave benefits.
